Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer II in Maine to lead world-class manufacturing and assembly processes. You will evaluate safety, quality, product use, and cost, and work in a cross-functional team to realize project goals.

Responsibilities include DFMA-based design, wiring diagrams, PLC/HMI/Robotics programming, and equipment upgrades. Strong hands-on skills and CAD proficiency are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited or equivalent).
  • Mechanical aptitude demonstrated (formal or informal).
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and robotics.
  • Knowledge of measurement sensors and CAD.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical/electrical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate with cross-functional product realization teams.
  • Apply DFMA and lean principles to transition ideas to execution.
  • Design and build equipment to support timelines.
  • Create wiring diagrams for control panels.
  • Program and interface with electromechanical systems (AB PLCs, NI LabVIEW).
  • Suggest upgrades and modifications for new initiatives.
  • Identify equipment needs and manage capital purchases.
  • Document standardized work and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and processes; assist maintenance.
  • Develop and enforce operating and production standards.
  • Support safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
