Job summary

Forgent Power Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Controls Engineer in Champlin, MN to lead the development of PLC and HMI programs for safe and efficient operations. You will ensure project quality, timely delivery, and comprehensive customer documentation while supporting production standards.

The role emphasizes hands-on PLC/HMI work, cross-functional collaboration, and ongoing technology assessment. Travel may be required on a limited basis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in control systems/automation.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet, etc.).
• Ability to manage customer projects and prepare technical proposals/cost estimates.
• Strong relationship-building with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Hands-on PLC and HMI programming experience.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support programming for control systems (PLCs, HMIs).
• Review customer requirements and guide engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot with cross-functional teams; drive continuous improvement.
• Develop training materials, documentation, and work instructions.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging products.
• Build relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and partners.
• Provide field support and occasional local travel.
• Follow safety, quality standards, and housekeeping.
