Senior Automation & Controls Engineer – Oil & Gas
Location: Alpharetta, GA (On-site | M–F 8AM–5PM | 1-hour flex)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation & Controls Engineer to lead complex, multi-site projects in the oil and gas sector. This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys solving complex automation challenges across industrial facilities such as pipeline stations, truck racks, and tank farms.
You’ll work on a variety of high-visibility projects from concept through commissioning—taking full ownership of controls design, programming, documentation, and field support.

What You’ll Do
- Independently lead automation projects from concept through commissioning.
- Design and implement advanced PLC & HMI/SCADA systems:
- PLC Mastery in at least 4 platforms (must include RSLogix5000 & GE Proficy)
- HMI/SCADA Mastery in at least 4 platforms (must include FactoryTalk View & Proficy iFIX)
- Develop complete project documentation, including:
- I/O Lists, Data Maps, Functional Specs, Test Plans
- Control Architecture Diagrams
- Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals
- Lead or support system startups, cutovers, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
- Interpret and integrate electrical, mechanical, and civil drawings for automation applications.
- Provide mentoring and quality reviews for junior engineers.
- Maintain expert-level understanding of hazardous area classifications and relevant design standards.
What You Bring
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering
- ~ 10+ years of experience in automation/control systems for industrial facilities
- Strong expertise in:
- 49 CFR 195 – All Subparts
- API 1165, API RP 500, API MPMS
- Valve types, actuators, and troubleshooting of wiring & limit switches
- Systems for pipeline pump stations, tank farms, loading/unloading racks
- Ability to lead projects, manage scope/schedule, and serve as a subject matter expert Bonus Points
- PE License
- Experience working with major oil & gas operators or EPC firms
