Job summary

Perrigo Nutritionals is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to support automation and control systems, driving maintenance to minimize downtime and executing capital projects aligned with site objectives.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, a B.S. in Engineering, and expertise in Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix PLCs, Rockwell VFDs/MCCs, and AVEVA System Platform. Excellent technical writing and project management skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years relevant experience.
  • B.S. in Engineering or related field.
  • Project engineering and project management experience.
  • Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix PLCs; Rockwell VFDs/MCCs.
  • AVEVA Wonderware System Platform or similar SCADA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and execute projects supporting site objectives and continuous improvement.
  • Full lifecycle project management from design to startup and validation.
  • Ensure documentation compliance (change control, GMP).
  • Produce technical descriptions, specifications, and engineering analyses.
  • Maintain site electrical and control drawings and standards.
  • Provide technical support as SME for new and existing systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting for maintenance and automation technicians.
  • Limited after-hours support for urgent issues.

Job description

Description Overview

Automation and Controls Engineer supporting Perrigo Nutritionals automation and control systems, including maintenance to minimize downtime, continuous improvement/modifications for changing process requirements, and execution of capital projects aligned with site objectives. Work must meet FDA/GMP requirements. Reports to the Engineering Manager.

Scope of the Role
  • Plan, manage, and execute projects supporting strategic site objectives, continuous improvement, and mitigation of hardware/software obsolescence.
  • Full life cycle project management (planning, system design, programming, vendor/contractor management, procurement, schedule/budget adherence, installation, startup, validation, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with site documentation practices (change management, validation, GMP requirements).
  • Technical writing (functional descriptions/specifications, engineering standards, investigation findings, engineering analysis/studies, regulatory compliance).
  • Maintain site electrical and control panel drawings.
  • Provide technical support and serve as SME for new and existing systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting support for maintenance, calibration, and automation technicians.
  • Limited after-hours support for urgent issues.
Experience Required
  • 5+ years relevant experience.
  • B.S. in Engineering or related field.
  • Project engineering and project management.
  • Rockwell Automation ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLCs; Rockwell Automation VFDs/MCCs.
  • AVEVA (Wonderware) System Platform or similar SCADA.
Preferred Experience
  • Food/pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Electrical/control panel design and standards (NEC, UL508A); electrical distribution up to 480VAC (NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Machine safety standards; networking/switch configuration (Cisco, Stratix, Siemens).
  • Industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, IO-Link, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ASI, PROFIBUS).
  • VMware vSphere; ThinManager; Active Directory management.
  • Microsoft SQL Server/Management Studio/Reporting Services.
  • Siemens MCCs/VFDs; GE iFix/iBatch; Keyence vision systems.
