Job Description

CDM Smith seeks a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer experienced in SCADA systems, controls, and instrumentation in process industries. The candidate should have excellent communication, project leadership, client relationship skills, and a commitment to professional growth. With over 30 years in automation design and programming, you will be a key part of expanding our services.

As part of the North Automation team, your responsibilities include:

  1. Designing complex SCADA, controls, cybersecurity, and instrumentation systems; developing technical memoranda and preliminary design reports.
  2. Creating master plans and assessment reports related to SCADA and cybersecurity.
  3. Leading and mentoring junior staff, reviewing their work, and providing feedback on client relations and career development.
  4. Developing proposals, client presentations, scope of work, and project budgets.
  5. Estimating effort levels (LOEs).
  6. Supporting construction through review of shop drawings, RFIs, FATs, and inspections.
  7. Implementing SCADA programming, creating HMI designs, configuring PLC software, and developing operational reports.
  8. Leading testing and startup activities independently, ensuring quality and documentation.
  9. Developing operations & maintenance manuals and end-user training programs.
  10. Identifying opportunities to expand existing contracts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or related; PE license preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; equivalent experience considered.

Travel may be required (domestic/international).

Driver's License Requirements

Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater projects.
  • Experience in engineering/construction firms.
  • Leadership experience.
  • PE in Control Systems (NY or reciprocity).

Travel: 30%. Skills: instrumentation, controls, communication, MS Office. Equal Opportunity Employer. Background checks and drug testing may be required. Pay range: $119,101 - $208,416. No visa sponsorship. Employment type: Full-time, Regular. Seniority level: Mid-Senior. Industry: Civil Engineering. Location: NY/NJ area with travel.
