Base pay range

$85,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

Position Summary

The Senior Auto Liability Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving complex auto liability and cargo claims, with a focus on the trucking transportation industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial auto liability and a solid understanding of cargo losses, including spoilage, theft, and transit-related damages.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently handle a full caseload of complex auto liability and cargo claims, from first notice of loss through resolution.
• Conduct thorough investigations including scene analysis, witness interviews, police report review, and gathering relevant documentation.
• Evaluate policy coverage, liability, and damages, and determine the appropriate course of action.
• Manage litigation and coordinate with defense counsel and other third‑party service providers as needed.
• Negotiate settlements within authority limits and in compliance with company standards and best practices.
• Provide regular and detailed claim status updates to internal stakeholders and clients.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the claim management system.
• Act as a technical resource for junior adjusters and assist in training or mentoring as needed.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations as well as internal claims handling guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience handling commercial auto liability claims, with at least 3 years of cargo claims experience.
• In-depth knowledge of transportation/trucking industry claims, DOT regulations and relevant insurance coverages.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience handling litigated files and working closely with legal counsel.
• Proficient with claim management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Active Adjuster's license(s) as required by state(s) of operation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in insurance, risk management, or a related field.
• Prior experience working for or with third‑party administrators (TPAs) or self‑insured transportation carriers.
• Certifications such as AIC, CPCU, or similar are a plus.
