Job summary

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education is seeking a Senior Instructional Aide, Autism Support to assist a Special Education Teacher in supporting students with autism and other neurological disorders. The role involves tutoring and helping students build learning, behavior and social skills in classroom settings and in community-based activities.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent with college coursework in psychology, child development, education or a related field.
• Experience: Two years of experience working with Special Education students and/or children with Autism, or other neurological disorders is desirable.
• License/Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California driver’s license and automobile insurance.
• Certifications: CPR and First Aid certificates.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certificated Special Education Teacher in administering and tutoring support services to students in a classroom setting to acquire learning, behavior and social skills.
• Support students with public and vocational skills in independent one-to-one or small group formats.
• Work 50% or more time in the community without direct supervision from certificated staff when supporting students with autism.
