Job description

About Us

RecruitGo is a leading Employer of Record (EOR) company specializing in bridging top talent in emerging markets with global clients. Our services enable businesses to hire, manage, and pay employees internationally with ease. We are committed to providing seamless and efficient solutions to our clients and fostering a dynamic and inclusive work environment for our team.

Position Overview

RecruitGo is seeking a Senior Australian Bookkeeper to join our team and play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, payroll, reconciliations, and monthly management reporting. This is a great opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper with strong Xero knowledge, Australian payroll compliance experience, and excellent attention to detail to take on a senior role while supporting and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our Australian accounting practice and take responsibility for a portfolio of business clients. This is a senior, hands‑on position requiring strong technical bookkeeping knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to manage client relationships and resolve more complex bookkeeping and payroll matters. In addition to managing your own client work, you will assist with reviewing work completed by other team members, improving processes and supporting the development of junior and intermediate bookkeeping staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and take ownership of bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients across multiple industries in Xero cloud accounting system
  • Oversee the quality and accuracy of client bookkeeping records.
  • Prepare and review bank, credit card, payroll and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger processes.
  • Prepare and review payroll, including superannuation and payroll-related obligations.
  • Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
  • Review GST, PAYG withholding, payroll and superannuation reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve complex bookkeeping and reconciliation issues.
  • Review general ledger accounts and identify unusual transactions, errors or areas requiring adjustment.
  • Preparation and /or review of weekly reports as instructed
  • Preparation of financial reports from Xero particularly management report, including the provision of month-end journals
  • Prepare high‑quality bookkeeping files, reconciliations and supporting schedules for accountants and yearend financial reporting.
  • Work closely with junior or intermediate bookkeepers to resolve client bookkeeping matters.
  • Act as a key point of contact for bookkeeping clients and proactively manage outstanding information and deadlines.
  • Assist clients with bookkeeping systems, processes and accounting software.
  • Review bookkeeping work completed by junior or intermediate team members.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentoring to bookkeeping staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal bookkeeping processes and client workflows.
  • Assist with onboarding new bookkeeping clients, including reviewing existing systems and establishing appropriate processes and controls.
  • Ensure client work is delivered accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and quality‑control standards across client files.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced professional who can take genuine ownership of client bookkeeping rather than simply process transactions. You will be someone who notices when something does not look right, investigates the issue and works through to a resolution. You will be comfortable communicating directly with clients, coordinating with accountants and supporting less experienced members of the team. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical capability, reliability, commercial awareness and a strong commitment to delivering high‑quality client service.

QualificationsSkills and Experience
  • At least 3-5 years' bookkeeping experience, with substantial experience in an Australian accounting or bookkeeping practice.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian bookkeeping, GST, BAS, payroll, PAYG withholding and superannuation requirements.
  • Advanced experience with Xero and associated bookkeeping applications.
  • Familiarity with business and accounting applications such as Dext, Deputy, Lightspeed, Square and similar platforms would be an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, investigate and resolve complex bookkeeping issues.
  • Experience managing multiple client files and competing deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Qualifications
  • Experience reviewing the work of other bookkeepers and mentoring junior team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confidence dealing directly with business owners, managers and accountants.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting, accounting degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Xero certification will be highly regarded.
