Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in East Palo Alto, CA seeks a Database Engineer to join the Aurora database team.

You will work on Aurora MySQL and related services, helping customers migrate, scale, and shard high-volume databases. This role requires deep expertise in distributed transactions, data migration, and sharding strategies, collaborating with developers, product managers, and support teams to drive end-to-end design, testing and customer adoption.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in relational database tech (e.g., Redshift, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL).
• 5+ years troubleshooting skills across app, network, and host.
• 3+ years in operations of highly available, scalable internet systems.
• 3+ knowledge of AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, VPC, Route53, S3).

Responsibilities

• Work closely with customers to understand challenges, solve escalations, and teach best practices.
• Act as the voice of the customer to bring learnings to engineering and plan end-to-end test scenarios.
• Actively drive feature enhancements, resolve root causes, and improve performance of the managed database service.
• Contribute to automation solutions to improve operational efficiency of the database service.
• Be the subject matter expert for all things databases for multiple teams and customers.
• Interact with the open-source community via forums, conferences and code submissions.
