Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This position is located in the Engineering Operations Department, House Recording Studio (HRS), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The purpose of the House Recording Studio is to provide live broadcast coverage of House proceedings, livestream coverage of Committee hearings, and full-service television and radio studios to Members of Congress. This position serves as Senior Audiovisual Technician.

Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of equipment and systems necessary to facilitate the audiovisual needs of the Members, committees, and leadership offices of the House, including preparation and allocation of contracted support resources.

A flexible work schedule including occasional weekends and late nights are required for this position. Schedule may fluctuate on a biweekly basis to accommodate the service needs of the House.

Grade level at time of appointment is determined by experience and designated level of responsibility.

The position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform audio and video equipment deployment, configuration, implementation, and striking for diverse, high-profile events in various multipurpose rooms throughout the House campus.
  • Serve as HRS subject matter expert on campus audiovisual systems and equipment.
  • Organize, train, guide, and deploy contract Audiovisual Technicians in responding to setup requests.
  • Consult as needed to offer insight and feedback on room and system audiovisual upgrades and renovations.
  • Remain adaptable to a flexible work schedule including fluctuating early mornings, late nights, and/or weekends to accommodate the service needs of the House.
  • Interface with clients to facilitate audiovisual needs and ensure proper layout and connectivity of electronic equipment, including microphones, projectors, video conferencing systems, monitors, lighting, computers, and presentation systems.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance of audiovisual equipment and systems to ensure proper functionality, including software updates, cleaning, and testing when not in use.
  • Respond to clients’ audiovisual needs during active events with poise and efficiency.
  • Perform cable management according to HRS standards for each event, ensuring safe runs and proper dressing to maintain exceptional aesthetic and prevention of tripping hazards.
  • Maintain proper storage and organization of audiovisual equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of consumable parts, tools, cables, connectors, adapters, etc. and routinely submit requests to order replenishments.
  • Maintain awareness of industry advancements and emerging technology, and suggest innovations to improve workflows.
  • Performs other official duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Five years of audiovisual event support experience in theaters, corporations, hospitality, government, and/or convention centers.
  • Experience interfacing with customers in high pressure situations during live events.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual systems and equipment, including microphones, audio, video conferencing, public address, projectors, lighting, cabling, and presentation.
  • Skill in organizing equipment and maintaining inventory.
  • Skill in creative and analytical problem-solving.
  • Skill at following directives and completing tasks.
  • Ability to facilitate video conference meetings, including configuration with integrated audiovisual systems.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends, based on the service needs of the House.
  • Ability to remain consistently punctual and check in with scheduling manager.
  • Ability to respond to end-user errors and assist with training in a patient, graceful, and poised manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve with creative solutions in real-time as needed.
  • Ability to exercise basic fluency in computer operating systems and software, such as Windows, Mac, iOS, and MS Office.
  • Ability to walk, stand, crouch, climb (ladders and stairs), and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain administrative and quality control processes.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with tact, as well as the ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or vocational certificate in related technical field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of management experience preferred.
  • Experience in Q-SYS Audio Software preferred.
