Responsibilities

  • Assists committee chairs in preparing and submitting rule amendments to the Board of Governors.
  • Coordinates scheduling of committee and subcommittee meetings; prepares agendas and minutes.
  • Maintains records of committee business, agendas, minutes, and Supreme Court filings.
  • Reviews case law, legislative material, rules, and publications to stay current on subjects covered by rules committees.
  • Assists public and The Florida Bar members with questions related to rules committees.
  • Maintains attendance records and advises on committee member appointments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Attorney - Rules #2183

Lawyer Regulation | Tallahassee, FL

Minimum starting salary $87,804.63 with an excellent benefits package including employer paid pension contribution | Employees of The Florida Bar are eligible to apply for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Legal writing sample is required with resume (must be in Word or .pdf).

Summary function: Supports court rules committees.

Required minimum education: Juris Doctorate and Member of The Florida Bar in good standing.

Required minimum professional work experience: Three (3) years of legal experience as an attorney and four (4) years of experience in writing, editing, legal research or related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists committee chairs in preparing and submitting rule amendments to the Board of Governors. Finalizes and files petitions, comments, and other pleadings with the Supreme Court, ensuring that documents are in Supreme Court style guide and ADA compliance requirements.
  • Coordinates scheduling of committee and subcommittee meetings. Coordinates with committee and subcommittee chairs to prepare and distribute agendas and minutes. Posts materials to committees' web pages. Attends committee and subcommittee meetings.
  • Maintains records of all committee business including agendas, minutes, and Supreme Court filings. Maintains docket of files in progress and assists chair and subcommittee chairs to meet deadlines. Ensures the department head is made aware of potential issues or concerns that arise with regard to the activities of the committees.
  • Reviews case law, legislative material, rules, and other publications to remain current on subjects covered by rules committees. Updates and reviews web pages to ensure rules posted are current.
  • Assists public and TFB members with questions related to rules committees.
  • Maintains records of member attendance at committee meetings; evaluates committee members; and advises president-elect on committee member and officer appointments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
