Job description

The Senior Athletic Trainer supports Stetson University by providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all student-athletes. Serving as a member of the Sports Medicine Team, the Senior Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and/or Senior Associate Athletic Trainer in the Wilson Athletic Center. This position will be directly responsible for the medical coverage of the Baseball and Cross-Country programs. Coverage includes, but is not limited to, attending practices, games (home and away), & conditioning sessions, as well as other team-related functions. Travel is required for in-season baseball games and select cross-country competitions as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine. This position should be prepared to handle all medical referrals to team physicians as well as coordinate care in the prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of their assigned teams. In addition, this role will be expected to perform organizational and administrative duties and other professional responsibilities that come with being a collegiate Athletic Trainer. This position will receive a stipend (on a funding available basis) to act as an Associate Athletic Trainer level of support for the Sports Medicine Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, butare not limited to the following:

  • Oversee all sports medicine operations for assigned teams
  • Assist in the onboarding and mentoring of the Assistant Athletic Trainers
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and Senior Associate Athletic Trainer with:
    • Planning and conducting pre-participation physical examination of all student-athletes
    • Overseeing all phases of rehabilitation for all student-athletes for assigned teams
    • Assisting with and participating in education and in-service presentations
    • Recruiting and participating in the hiring of Assistant Athletic Trainers
    • Assisting with additional coverage of athletic teams when needed
    • Assisting in reviewing and updating policy and procedures for the Sports Medicine Department
    • Serving as liaison between the Sports Medicine staff and the Strength and Conditioning staff as well as Team Physicians
  • Maintain Wilson Athletic Center Athletic Training Room and Satellite Athletic Training Room at Melching Field at Conrad Park
    • Cleaning
    • Restocking
    • Maintaining accurate and up to date student-athlete medical records in a confidential and secure manner
    • Be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Complete other administrative duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine
  • Perform other site and position specific functions as assigned

    • If Bachelor’s Degree for Certification, Master’s Degree in Related field is preferred
  • Professional CPR/AED/First Aid

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years post-graduate Athletic Training experience
  • Collegiate Baseball Experience

Work Environment: In this role, the Senior Athletic Trainer will work in a fast-paced environment both indoors and outdoors at times. This position will be located at times in areas of loud noise (i.e. music, horns, whistles, videos, etc.) as well as flashing and bright lights (i.e. videoboards, light shows during games, etc.).
