Job summary

RMI’s Electricity Program seeks a Senior Associate to advance regulatory cost allocation, ratemaking, and related regulatory issues across the electricity system.

The Senior Associate will help regulators, consumer advocates, utilities, and other stakeholders evaluate how utility costs, investments, benefits, and risks are allocated and how those choices affect customer rates and affordability, utility incentives and financial outcomes, and broader regulatory objectives.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant experience in utility regulation or energy policy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory filings into analyses.
• Quantitative fluency with financial and ratemaking analyses.
• Experience with cost-of-service, cost allocation, and rate design.
• Project leadership and independent workstream ownership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to research and analysis on utility cost allocation, ratemaking, and related regulatory issues.
• Review utility filings, commission orders, stakeholder comments, legislation, and other sources to identify implications for RMI’s work.
• Translate regulatory developments into structured analytical questions and models; communicate findings and tradeoffs.
• Independently manage research workstreams, including planning, coordination, and delivery.
• Support engagements with regulators, utilities, and stakeholders by preparing briefing materials and leading discussions.
• Apply project management techniques to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables as an individual contributor.
