Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics in Foster City, CA is seeking an experienced analytical chemist to contribute to compendial, protein content, and impurity method development for biotherapeutics, including ELISA, qPCR, and plate-based assays. Hands-on lab work with HPLC, UV-Vis, SoloVPE, water content, osmolality, appearance, turbidity, and pH.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry with 5+ years of compendial, protein content, and impurity method experience.
• MS with 3+ years of relevant experience may substitute.
• GMP/GLP/GxP knowledge is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Location: Foster City, CA (Gilead corporate HQ)

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to compendial (USP/Ph. Eur./JP), protein content, and impurity method development/optimization for biotherapeutics (including ELISA, qPCR, plate-based assays).
• Perform hands-on lab work and analyze in-process samples, drug substances, and drug products using HPLC, UV-Vis, SoloVPE, water content, osmolality, appearance, turbidity, and pH.
• Lead internal/external lab investigations using compendial methods.
• Review development/QC analytical data; advise project teams on global requirements; collaborate with QC on verification/troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation/testing anomalies; train analysts; drive continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

• Good verbal/technical communication and interpersonal skills; collaborative in cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams.
• Independent judgment; recognize anomalous/inconsistent results and interpret outcomes.
• Technical proficiency and scientific creativity in experimental design.

Required

• BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry with 5+ years’ compendial, protein content, and impurity method experience OR MS with 3+ years.

Preferred

• Experience with appearance, pH, turbidity, water content, spectroscopy/absorbance (SoloVPE/UV-Vis), HPLC/UPLC, osmolality, ELISA (RHC, protein A), residual DNA (qPCR).
• GMP/GLP/GxP knowledge highly preferred.

Compensation/Benefits

• Salary range: $126,820.00–$164,120.00;
