Compensation: $150,000–$180,000 base salary plus an annual target bonus of ~20%

About the Opportunity

A growing renewable energy platform is seeking a Senior Associate to support the financing of its expanding distributed generation portfolio. The organization is increasing its investment in constructing & owning renewable energy assets and building its in-house project finance capabilities to support this strategy.

This is a hands-on execution role for an experienced project finance professional who can independently advance transactions from initial structuring through closing. Reporting to the Vice President of Project Finance, the Senior Associate will work across the organization’s investment, development, legal, and management teams, serving as an important link between multiple stakeholders.

The Portfolio

The portfolio consists of distributed solar and battery energy storage projects across several U.S. markets. The organization has a strong near-term development pipeline and expects the portfolio to expand significantly over the coming years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the execution of project-level debt and tax equity financings for distributed solar and battery storage assets.
  • Manage financing processes from lender and investor outreach through due diligence, documentation, closing, and funding.
  • Build, review, and maintain detailed project finance models covering construction, operations, capital structure, tax benefits, and investor returns.
  • Evaluate financing structures and help optimize debt capacity, tax equity proceeds, risk allocation, and overall portfolio economics.
  • Prepare transaction materials, financial analyses, investment recommendations, and management presentations.
  • Coordinate commercial, technical, legal, insurance, accounting, and tax workstreams across internal teams and external advisers.
  • Review and negotiate financing term sheets, credit agreements, tax equity documents, security packages, and related closing materials in partnership with counsel.
  • Track transaction milestones, deliverables, approvals, and conditions precedent to keep financings on schedule.
  • Partner with development and investment teams to assess project bankability and resolve financing issues early in the development process.
  • Communicate clearly across distinct teams and management groups, aligning stakeholders with different priorities and decision-making processes.
  • Help establish scalable project finance processes, reporting tools, and financing strategies as the portfolio grows.
Qualifications
  • At least 3–4 years of relevant experience in renewable energy project finance, infrastructure investing, investment banking, commercial banking, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience executing and closing project finance transactions involving debt, tax equity, or both.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, analytical, and transaction-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy financing structures and project-level commercial agreements.
  • Ability to manage multiple transaction workstreams with limited oversight in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • High attention to detail, sound commercial judgment, and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience financing distributed generation, community solar, or commercial and industrial solar projects.
  • Exposure to standalone or solar-plus-storage battery projects.
  • Familiarity with community solar, distributed energy programs, subscriber-based revenue models, or similar structures.
  • Experience working within a renewable energy developer, independent power producer, infrastructure investor, lender, or tax equity investor.
  • Experience coordinating transactions across affiliated entities or multiple management teams.
Location and Travel

Preference will be given to candidates based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Durham NC, Washington, DC or Scottsdale, AZ. Other locations may be considered for exceptional candidates. Periodic travel for team meetings, transaction execution, and project-related work may be required.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range is $150,000–$180,000, with an annual target bonus of approximately 20%. Final compensation will reflect the candidate’s experience, transaction track record, location, and overall fit. Additional flexibility may be available for an exceptional candidate.
