Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work with our Manufacturing Engineering team. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, layout, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. They prepare design specifications, analysis, and recommendations for presentation and approval. The role involves analyzing mechanical requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within time and cost constraints, and working with manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors.

Essential Functions

• Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area.
• Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures.
• Identifies and addresses changes within own job area.
• Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
• Works with PTC Creo and Windchill.
• Conducts design reviews with cross-functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs.
• Oversees procurement/fabrication of tooling.
• Works with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of tooling design.
• Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Less than 5% travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of related mechanical experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of related mechanical experience.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience with solid modeling programs such as Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, CATIA, CREO, or SolidWorks.
• Fabrication experience is a plus.
• Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
• Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus.
