What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):

  1. Evaluate individual disability income (IDI) applications to determine approval, denial, or need for additional information based on various risks
  2. Collaborate with medical directors and underwriting management to resolve complex cases
  3. Implement underwriting policies and regulatory directives while effectively communicating decisions
  4. Manage IDI underwriting cases in partnership with third-party administrators
  5. Mentor junior underwriters and participate in training and development initiatives

What is Required (Qualifications):

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  2. 5+ years of experience in disability/IDI underwriting
  3. In-depth knowledge of IDI insurance products and processes
  4. Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate complex medical and financial information
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills

  1. Industry-related education (DIA, LOMA) is desired
  2. Experience handling complex IDI underwriting cases
