Monarch Investment in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a Senior Associate General Counsel to join our in-house legal team. Lead counsel for assigned regions and properties in our national portfolio, with broad exposure across premises liability, fair housing, insurance, employment, contracts, and landlord-tenant law.

You will advise site staff, partner with Asset Management to identify and analyze issues, and draft policies to reduce risk and ensure compliance with laws.

Formación

• 3–5+ years of civil litigation experience with trial, discovery and motion practice.
• Experience with or interest in premises liability, fair housing, employment law, insurance, contracts, landlord-tenant law and workers’ compensation.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills; ability to provide practical business-minded advice.

• Stay current through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.

What you'll do:

• Serve as lead legal counsel for assigned regions and properties in our national portfolio
• Advise site staff on premises liability, fair housing, insurance, employment, contracts, workers' compensation, landlord-tenant law, and more
• Partner with Asset Management teams to identify, research and analyze legal issues and potential liability, and provide clear legal opinions and advice
• Review and recommend policies, procedures and guidelines that reduce risk and keep us compliant with federal, state and local laws, then audit adherence
• Negotiate, review and prepare key operational contracts and other legal documents
• Work with the legal team and the Training Department to build in-house training for employees
• Build relationships with employees at every level and earn buy-in on best practices
• Support the General Counsel, CEO and COO on other assignments as needed
• Stay current through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations

What you need:

• 3–5+ years of civil litigation experience, including trial, discovery and motion practice, and/or experience with regulatory agencies such as HUD and EEOC
• Experience with or interest in premises liability, fair housing, employment law, insurance, contracts, landlord-tenant law and workers' compensation
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical and organizational skills
• A practical, business-minded approach to solving problems
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while contributing to a team
• Sound judgment, strong communication skills and a positive attitude
• A willingness to learn, accept feedback and keep growing
