Job summary

The New York City Economic Development Corporation seeks a Senior Associate within the Funds & Advisory team to drive impact investing across debt, equity and guarantees, and to support pipeline sourcing, due diligence, modeling and memo prep for governance committees.

You will assist with fund monitoring, portfolio reporting and program design for new tools, collaborating with Legal, Finance, Strategy and Initiatives to advance city priorities; NYC residency is required within 180 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of transactional experience in investing, investment banking, private equity, or real estate finance.
  • Interest in or experience with impact investing balancing financial returns with social/economic/environmental outcomes.
  • Proven financial analysis skills including modeling, underwriting, valuation, and quantitative analysis.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and presentations, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including public speaking and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate information, identify trends, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Sound judgment to assess opportunities and support informed decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Interest in NYC, public policy, public-private partnerships, and program design.
  • NYC residency is required within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Source pipeline and screen business plans to cultivate impact investment opportunities
  • Support due diligence in the form of business model evaluation, financial analysis, and industry/market analysis
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models, including key drivers
  • Assist with investment structuring and credit/valuation analyses (e.g., IRR and DCF)
  • Review and negotiate term sheets and legal documentation
  • Prepare investment memorandums and presentations for senior decision-making
  • Assist with fund monitoring and reporting, including financial and impact returns
  • Support internal and external colleagues with impact investment program design and execution
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses to evaluate new programs and opportunities
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Strategy, Initiatives to support city priorities
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Overview

The Senior Associate will work on the Funds & Advisory team within the Strategic Investments Group. The Funds & Advisory team manages a diversified portfolio that, consistent with the rest of NYCEDC, is dedicated to expanding opportunity and enriching NYC’s economy. Investments are made directly in companies and into funds. Investments cut across asset classes, including debt, equity, and guarantees and seek blended financial and social / environmental returns. The Funds & Advisory team also advises internal and external stakeholders on a range of strategic initiatives and financial topics.

The Senior Associate will assist with all aspects of the impact investment process, including pipeline sourcing, financial analysis and modeling, due diligence, investment memorandum preparation, presentation to the relevant governance committee(s), legal documentation, transaction execution and funding. The Senior Associate will also assist with the broader advisory function, ongoing fund portfolio monitoring and reporting and research-based evaluation and program design associated with the launch of new impact investment tools.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in other NYCEDC departments, including but not limited to Legal,Finance,Strategy,andInitiatives to support organizational and city priorities

Salary Range

$90,000 - $92,000 USD
