Job summary

AAAS is seeking a full-time Associate or Senior Editor for Next Generation Medicine in Washington, DC, Cambridge (UK), or remote in the US/UK. The role focuses on evaluating, editing, and guiding manuscripts in cutting-edge medicine, with travel to conferences and strong collaboration with scientists.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in next generation medicine with post-PhD experience and excellent writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in next generation medicine and 1–5 years post-PhD experience.
• Knowledge of scientific research methods to discuss technical issues with authors.
• Excellent written, communication, and listening skills to evaluate, edit, and modify manuscripts.
• Editorial experience not required; Senior Editor level requires 5 years selecting/editing research.

Responsibilities

• Manage evaluation, review, and editing of submitted manuscripts in next generation medicine.
• Judge scientific value based on input from advisors and reviewers, with colleagues' consultation.
• Provide recommendations and consult with authors on manuscript revisions.
• Write summaries of research results for publication.
• Follow manuscripts through production to timely publication.
• Commission and edit timely review articles on diverse topics.
• Network with the scientific community at meetings and through professional contacts.
• Represent Science at national and international meetings.
