Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal in Chicago seeks a Senior Financial Due Diligence professional to assist with core financial due diligence, identify risks, and assess transaction strengths against industry benchmarks.

You will analyze detailed financial statements, synthesize data for discussions with target management, and present findings to clients. Mentoring junior staff and contributing to business development are also part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of financial accounting due diligence experience or equivalent at a top accounting firm.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent credential.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and purchase accounting.
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, able to articulate to senior target management, client representatives, and colleagues.
  • Basic project management skills.
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively as a team member and independently as an individual contributor.
  • Willingness to travel for projects and A&M needs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with core financial due diligence: identify key risks and potential deal breakers, assess the strengths and weaknesses of the business against industry benchmarks, and evaluate transactions in the context of clients’ investment strategies.
  • Analyze detailed financial statement information, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and key operational data; synthesize data to drive discussions with target management and form conclusions.
  • Assess the quality of reported earnings, net assets, and cash flows.
  • Construct deal-oriented reports and presentations for clients, highlighting key findings and value drivers for maintainable profits and cash flows, and recommend how to incorporate these findings into valuations, agreements, and negotiation points.
  • Participate in meetings and conference calls with target management and client personnel; serve as a secondary point of contact for execution matters.
  • Build and maintain client relationships and support business development opportunities.
  • Mentor CTG associates and analysts; oversee training initiatives to develop team capabilities.
  • Research technical accounting subjects relevant to CTG to enhance client services.
  • Coordinate with all A&M service groups and functional areas during engagements.
  • Delegate work to associates and analysts, and review and develop their work.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary is $130,000 annually, varying with education, experience, skills, and geography. A&M offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance. Please consult with your recruiter for details.

Full‑time employees working 30 or more hours per week are entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings’ fringe benefits, which include healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverage, as well as a 401(k) retirement savings plan with regular discretionary contributions. Eligible employees also receive paid time off, including vacation, personal days, seventy‑two hours of sick time (prorated for part time), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave.
