Job summary

The Chemours Company is seeking a Senior Associate Chemist for our Thermal & Specialty Solutions team at the Newark, DE Discovery Hub. The role focuses on process development, scale-up, and support for manufacturing with strong emphasis on experimental design and data analysis.

You will work with HF-related processes, collaborate with chemists and engineers, and contribute to safety and quality in a fast-paced environment. This position offers comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in chemistry or related fields.
  • At least five years of chemistry lab experience.
  • Knowledge of lab techniques, equipment and safety practices.
  • Experience or willingness to work with HF.
  • Ability to perform experiments independently with minimal supervision.
  • Accurate observation and reporting with IP protection in mind.
  • Good computer skills on Windows; learn new software as needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform organic synthesis laboratory tests following standard protocols.
  • Set up reactions, perform purification, and characterize products (GC-MS, NMR, IR).
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments.
  • Conduct designed experiments under supervision of senior chemists.
  • Record, analyze, and report data using software and databases.
  • Follow QC/QA procedures and regulations.
  • Assist with research projects and experiments as needed.
  • Collaborate with lab staff, researchers, and supervisors.

Chemours is seeking a Senior Associate Chemist to join our growing Thermal & Specialty Solutions team. This position will be available at the at the Chemours™ Discovery Hub in Newark, DE. In Thermal & Specialty Solutions, we harness next-generation, low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) technology to provide market driven innovations to customers in the areas of Refrigerants, Propellants, Fire Protection, Foam Blowing Agents used in various systems for building and construction segments, and Mobile and Stationary heating and cooling systems. Our technical organization consists of experts in the areas of fluorine, catalysis, process development, analytical and formulation science, and application development to name a few. This highly visible, key role will support R&D projects within the Thermal & Specialty Solutions business with specific focus on Process Development, process scale-up and support for commercial-scale manufacturing, and existing plant support.

Responsibilities
  • Perform organic synthesis laboratory tests and procedures according to standard protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Carry out daily lab operation including set up reactions, purification, and characterization (GC-MS, NMR, IR, etc.).
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and devices.
  • Execute designed experiments under supervision of senior chemists.
  • Record, analyze, and report data using software and databases.
  • Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures and regulations.
  • Assist with research projects and experiments as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other lab staff, researchers, and supervisors.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in chemistry and similar technical fields, or High school diploma with 5+ years of relevant chemistry laboratory experience.
  • At least five years of experience working in a chemistry laboratory setting
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safe working practices.
  • Experience in working with HF or willingness to learn how to deal with HF
  • Ability to carry out experiments independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team with proper attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to accurately record observations and results consistent with protection of intellectual property
  • Good computer skills in Windows operating system and willingness to learn new software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in organic synthesis, creating new molecules and creating new routes to synthesize wanted molecules.
