The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) aims to develop student-athletes academically, socially, and athletically while boosting UIC’s national athletic profile. Position Summary: The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Finance and Administration provides direct oversight of multiple athletic units, including but not limited to the Business Office, Information Technology, Sports Equipment and Apparel Operations, and Team Travel Operations. This position supervises professional staff within these units and plays a key leadership role in the administration of financial management of the Department of Athletics.

Under administrative direction, the Senior Associate Athletic Director serves as a member of the department’s Senior Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning, resource allocation, and departmental operations. The position also functions as a sport supervisor for designated athletic programs. The position will be engaged in financial, business, and budgetary matters and use their expertise in finance, accounting and business to analyze financial data and assess the financial health of the unit. Will make recommendations and give advice on optimal staffing, organization policies and procedures in the financial and budgetary areas of Athletics.

Key Responsibilities: •Serve as a trusted senior advisor to the Director of Athletics and the Senior Leadership Team on financial and administrative matters. •Provide leadership and daily oversight of the Athletics Business Office and its professional Staff. •Oversee the operations and personnel of athletics units including the Business Office; Information Technology; Sport Equipment and Apparel; Team Travel Operations; and other units as assigned. •Manage the department’s operating, scholarship, and capital debt budgets, including strategic financial planning, forecasting, and monitoring. •Develop and implement departmental business policies and procedures aligned with University, system, conference, and NCAA standards. •Collaborate with the Chancellor/Provost Business Service Center and the University’s Office for Budget and Analysis on the preparation and submission of the budget materials and ongoing financial matters. •Develop and maintain institutional data (e.g., financial projections, planning and performance metrics) in easily accessible formats to facilitate real-time decision making. •Coordinate and submit required instructional, conference, state, and federal reports (e.g., NCAA Financial Report, EADA Report, Clery Act, FOIA). •Serve as a sport supervisor for assigned programs, supporting coaches in achieving competitive, academic, and developmental goals for student-athletes. •Manage departmental contractual agreements, including game contracts, facility rentals, and service/vendor contracts. •Monitor and support all unit and sport program budgets; meet routinely with budget manages; ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reconciliation of purchasing transactions, corporate cards, etc. •Deliver budget and financial presentations to internal and external stakeholders as needed. •Represent Athletics on University, system, conference, and working groups (e.g., OBFS Purchasing) related to business operations. •Ensure exceptional customer service to staff, student-athletes, campus partners, and external constituents. •Uphold and promote adherence to all NCAA, conference, and University policies and regulations. •Represent the University with professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions. •Perform other related departmental duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related fields.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated success in business finance or related fields.
  • Experience managing full-time, part-time, and/or student staff.
  • Proficient in database, accounting, Microsoft Office, and related software systems.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of and compliance with NCAA, Conference, UI System and University rules that relate to duties and responsibilities of this position.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, business administration, sports management or related fields.
  • Experience in college athletics environment, whether on-campus or at the conference or national levels.
  • Experience in Division 1 athletics.
  • Experience leading units or teams of personnel
  • Excellent organizational, management, communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment to diversity and equity through recruitment, selection and supervision of personnel.
