Why It’s a Great Department:
The Senior Asset Management Engineering Manager is a key leader within the Comprehensive Planning Department, working at the intersection of planning, engineering, operations, maintenance, finance, and organizational strategy. Our department looks at the big picture - helping Metro understand future infrastructure needs, evaluate alternatives, prioritize investments, and develop strategies that support reliable and sustainable wastewater services.
The Asset Management Engineering Division works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and other departments to understand organizational needs and develop comprehensive planning recommendations. You'll also lead and participate in Enterprise Planning Group activities and decision‑support processes that help bring diverse perspectives together around Metro's long‑term infrastructure needs.
Our work requires collaboration, thoughtful analysis, and the ability to navigate complex issues with competing priorities. You'll work with technical experts, organizational leaders, consultants, and stakeholders to evaluate challenging infrastructure decisions and develop solutions that balance today's needs with tomorrow's demands.
How to be Successful:
We're looking for an experienced leader in asset management programs and complex, multidisciplinary initiatives. You’ll understand how to evaluate asset condition, criticality, reliability, performance, and business risk and use that information to develop practical lifecycle strategies, replacement recommendations, and funding priorities.
Success in this role requires the ability to connect technical asset management practices to broader organizational goals. This includes developing and maintaining Asset Management Plans, implementing consistent asset management standards and governance processes, and integrating asset replacement needs into Metro’s Capital Expenditure Schedule.
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills are essential. You’ll facilitate discussions among stakeholders with competing operational, maintenance, engineering, and financial priorities and use technical expertise, facilitation, and collaboration to influence decisions across the organization. You’ll also communicate complex asset management concepts and recommendations effectively to technical staff, managers, leadership, committees, and stakeholder groups.
Technology and data will also be important to your success. You’ll partner with Information Technology and operational stakeholders to improve Enterprise Asset Management systems, develop business requirements, improve asset information quality, and ensure dashboards, reporting, and analytical tools provide meaningful decision support.
Just as importantly, you’ll be a people leader. You’ll coach and mentor staff, support workforce and succession planning, develop technical capabilities, and foster a positive and productive work environment built on safety, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and data‑driven decision‑making.
Your Future in this Role:
As the Senior Asset Management Engineering Manager, you’ll have a significant opportunity to shape the future of Metro’s infrastructure. You’ll lead a major functional area within Comprehensive Planning with substantial autonomy, partnering with the Director of Comprehensive Planning to develop and implement asset management strategies that support Metro’s long‑term goals.
Your work will influence how Metro understands the condition and risk of its assets, prioritizes renewal and replacement needs, manages lifecycle costs, and makes capital investment decisions. You’ll help establish the standards, governance, processes, and decision‑support tools that create consistency in asset management practices across the organization.
Beyond the technical work, this position provides an opportunity to develop a strong team and build organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, training, workforce planning, and succession planning. You’ll build relationships across Metro and contribute to strategic initiatives that have a lasting impact on the organization.
At Metro Water Recovery, we prioritize our employees’ growth and development by offering a range of training and development opportunities. Our focus is on fostering well‑rounded professionals who are equipped with the technical expertise, leadership skills, and tools needed to achieve their career goals.
