Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior architect/engineer to provide architectural and structural design for the RELX Business Unit. You will maintain technical knowledge, assess feasibility of development projects, and act as a conduit between Global Architecture and engineering or development teams.

You will collaborate with architects across organizations, introduce teams to new technology, and lead in resolving complex project issues while coordinating troubleshooting resources.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software, network, or systems engineering.
• 2) BS Engineering or Computer Science; advanced degree preferred.
• 3) Strong understanding of programming languages, code, and database.
• 4) Expert-level knowledge in one or more programming languages or an engineering discipline.
• 5) Expert in parallel and distributed processing systems, information retrieval, data mining, NLP, VLSDB, declarative languages and HPC.
• 6) Knowledge of network design, storage architectures, SOA, XML and XSLT, and parallel processing architectures.
• 7) Experience with Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, and z/OS.
• 8) Strong organization, planning, time management, change and delegation skills.
• 9) Advanced problem-solving leading teams through complex projects.
• 10) Strong communication skills and ability to present to clients and management.

Responsibilities

• Provide architectural and structural design for the applicable RELX Business Unit.
• Maintain and deliver technical knowledge and expertise.
• Determine the technical feasibility of development projects.
• Act as a conduit between Global Architecture and Engineering or Development teams.
• Collaborate with architects across different organizations.
• Introduce and train teams on new technology.
• Lead teams in resolving complex project issues and coordinate troubleshooting resources.
• Evaluate new technologies and their applicability to the business.
• Translate findings into alternatives and solutions, identifying risks, impacts, and schedule adjustments.
• Drive technical direction and architecture evolution through reviews and on-floor leadership.
• Monitor Business Unit system health and develop proposals to remedy negative trends.
• Identify subsystems or components suitable for evolution into shared infrastructure.
• Research and assess industry and technology advancements and build alliances to advance technical opportunities.
