Job summary

Stantec is seeking an experienced Senior Archaeologist to lead cultural resource investigations in California. The role focuses on managing field teams, coordinating with clients and regulators, and delivering compliant research while mentoring junior staff.

The position emphasizes CEQA and NHPA compliance, experience with DPR 523 forms, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment within a supportive team at Stantec.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
• 7+ years of CRM field experience in California.
• Experience coordinating with clients, agencies, and tribal representatives.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Project Manager/Principal Investigator for cultural resource investigations.
• Task manage pedestrian surveys, testing, data recovery, monitoring, and mitigation.
• Develop research designs, work plans, and field methodologies for compliant projects.
• Coordinate with agencies, tribal representatives, and clients to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Mentor and supervise junior archaeologists in field methods and reporting.
• Oversee artifact analysis, lab processing, and curation as needed.
• Prepare and review DPR 523 forms, site forms, and regulatory documents.
• Develop budgets, schedules, and scopes of work for projects.
• Ensure CEQA, NHPA Section 106, ARPA, NAGPRA compliance.
