Job summary

ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist to lead multidisciplinary archaeological studies and guide high-performing teams across the United States. You will mentor staff, drive business development, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients and regulatory agencies.

You will oversee fieldwork and reporting, collaborate across ERM practice areas, and manage complex projects within scope, budget, and schedule while advancing cultural heritage protections.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field plus 8+ years of paid experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to carry research to completion.
  • Ability to obtain archaeological and cultural resource permits.
  • Experience with inventory, survey, testing, and/or data recovery.
  • Experience as primary author on agency-reviewed technical reports.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
  • Proficiency in permitting regulations (FERC, USACE, THC).
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Business development abilities and ability to maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Ability to manage and work within a team as well as independently.
  • Limited travel within the United States.
  • Strong teambuilding, influencing skills, integrity, and client-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee archaeological studies and cultural resource projects from planning through completion.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to clients and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Drive business growth by developing new opportunities and strengthening client partnerships.
  • Mentor teams of archaeologists and cultural resource professionals.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary projects integrating cultural resources with broader environmental programs.
  • Expand ERM's leadership in Cultural Resources through technical excellence and client service.
  • Provide technical consulting to grow ERM's archaeology offerings nationwide.
  • Interact with ERM practice areas to share resources and best practices.
  • Represent ERM with state, federal, and local agencies and communicate with clients regularly.
  • Oversee subcontractors, prepare proposals, and manage multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
