Job summary

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) seeks a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead major cultural resources programs across the United States. You will guide project delivery, mentor staff, and strengthen client relations while advancing ERM’s leadership in environmental consulting.

The role requires a graduate degree in archaeology or related field, 6–8 years of experience, and RPA certification.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • RPA certification as a Professional Archaeologist per SHPO requirements.
  • Field leadership experience including inventory, survey, testing, and data recovery.
  • Experience authoring or reviewing agency-regulated reports (NEPA, etc.).
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency personnel as a consultant.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and travel to field sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead archaeological projects across the United States with principal oversight.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables by archaeologists.
  • Supervise field teams including reconnaissance, surveys, testing, and monitoring.
  • Hire, mentor, and train archaeologists across experience levels.
  • Coordinate with unit leads and directors to support performance and delivery.
  • Sign as Principal Investigator or Task Manager for major studies.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
