Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to develop and improve machine learning systems that enable robots to perceive, reason, and act in real-world environments. You will work with open-source and internal models, assess robustness and safety, and optimize for deployment on diverse robot embodiments.

You will collaborate with research, controls, hardware, and product teams, contributing to data pipelines, training workflows, and scalable evaluation tools.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of building machine learning models for business applications
• PhD, or Master’s degree with 6+ years of applied research experience
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• 2+ years hands-on experience in deep learning with CV/ multimodal models/ RL for robotics or HRI
• Ability to design rigorous experiments with reproducible baselines
• Demonstrated technical contributions (publications, patents, open-source, or impactful internal systems)

Responsibilities

• Leverage state-of-the-art models for tasks, environments, and robot embodiments through fine-tuning and optimization.
• Execute rapid, rigorous experimentation with reproducible results and solid engineering practices.
• Build and run capability evaluations/benchmarks to profile performance and generalization.
• Contribute to data and training workflow: collection/curation, dataset quality, and repeatable training recipes.
• Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to training infrastructure and APIs.
• Stay current with foundation models and robotics; support literature reviews and research documentation.
• Collaborate with senior scientists, engineers, and leaders across teams and assist hardware integration.
