Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to lead research for the Customer 360 Personalization initiative. You will own the scientific roadmap, study memory-rich knowledge systems, and mentor junior scientists while translating research into production-ready ML systems.

You will collaborate with engineering leaders to shape architecture, publish in top venues, and drive end-to-end experiments from problem formulation to business impact, in a team that values ownership and innovation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of applied research experience
• 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
• PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
• Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
• Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Responsibilities

• Own the scientific roadmap for personalization initiatives and translate ambiguous problems into ML formulations.
• Lead end-to-end research from problem formulation through production impact measurement.
• Mentor Applied Scientists and establish scientific standards for the team.
• Partner with engineering leadership to translate research into architecture decisions that shape the product.
• Drive technical decisions on model architecture, training methodology, and evaluation frameworks.
• Publish at top-tier venues and advance the state of the art in applied knowledge systems.
