Job summary

Amazon Web Services, Inc. is seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to create state-of-the-art models for complex reasoning tasks. You will train on latest-generation GPU hardware and deliver production systems used in the field.

You will define success metrics, build data pipelines with strict leakage controls, and work with analysts and engineers to refine methods. A TS/SCI clearance is required; sponsorship is provided for the appropriate agency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on work in predictive modeling and analysis experience.
• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field.
• Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end adaptation of frontier models for complex reasoning tasks, from supervised fine-tuning and post-training through reinforcement learning.
• Define what "good" means for each task, building evaluation sets, test harnesses, and metrics.
• Build and own data pipelines turning raw operational data into high-signal training and evaluation sets.
• Judge when a problem needs a genuinely new method versus an extension of an existing one.
