Job summary

Amazon in Bellevue, WA is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to advance delivery foundation models that power billions of packages worldwide. You will lead technically, mentor peers, and solve real-world logistics problems using state‑of‑the‑art AI, working with vast data and scalable infrastructure.

You will design multi‑modal architectures, drive research initiatives, and deploy robust models in production while collaborating with science and engineering teams across Amazon Last Mile.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field, or Master’s degree plus 10+ years of research experience.
• 5+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
• Proficient with data, experience with SQL and Spark.
• Expert coders comfortable in production environments using Python, C++ or other languages.
• Strong publication record at top conferences OR demonstrated industry ML impact and mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement novel deep learning architectures across modalities (image, video, geospatial data).
• Train foundation models at scale and infer at Amazon scale leveraging latest hardware and libraries.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to adapt models for Last Mile use cases and improve safety and efficiency.
• Set technical direction for research initiatives and ensure robust production performance.
• Mentor scientists while contributing hands-on to advanced modeling work.
