Job summary

Lumen is seeking a highly technical Senior Lead Applied AI Scientist to design, build, deploy, and continuously improve production-scale AI solutions. You will partner with business, product, engineering, and technology leaders to translate opportunities into AI-powered solutions with measurable business impact.

You will combine deep AI expertise with software engineering, experimentation, and product delivery, prototyping and scaling AI systems while guiding stakeholders through tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• Seven+ years in applied AI, ML, or data science with production deployments.
• Proven track record delivering AI solutions with measurable business impact.
• Deep expertise in ML, statistics, experimentation, predictive analytics, and modern AI techniques.
• Hands-on experience building LLM, RAG, agentic, and ML solutions.
• Strong AI evaluation, model performance optimization, responsible AI, and production monitoring.
• Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, MLflow).
• Experience with MLOps, LLMOps, cloud AI platforms, APIs, and software engineering best practices.
• Strong product mindset, problem-solving, and ability to communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize AI solutions from concept through production deployment.
• Partner with business and product teams to identify opportunities and validate value via rapid experiments.
• Develop advanced AI systems leveraging ML, generative AI, retrieval, and agentic architectures.
• Define evaluation frameworks and improve quality, reliability, safety, performance, and cost.
• Collaborate with Engineering to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions using MLOps/LLMOps.
• Contribute reusable frameworks, evaluation assets, and technical standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring on complex AI initiatives.
