Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Senior Lead Applied AI Scientist in the United States to design, build, deploy, and improve production‑scale AI solutions across diverse workflows. You’ll partner with business, product, and engineering leaders to translate opportunities into measurable AI value.

The role requires hands‑on expertise in ML, LLMs, retrieval, and MLOps, plus the ability to explain tradeoffs to technical and non‑technical stakeholders. You’ll mentor teams and drive impact across AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• Seven plus years of applied AI, ML, or data science with production deployments.
• Proven track record delivering AI solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Deep expertise in ML, statistics, experimentation, and modern AI techniques.
• Hands‑on with LLM, RAG, agentic, and ML solutions.
• Strong AI evaluation, model performance optimization, and monitoring.
• Proficient in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TF, HF, MLflow).
• Experience with MLOps/LLMOps and cloud AI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize AI solutions from concept through production deployment.
• Partner with business/product teams to identify opportunities and define success metrics.
• Develop advanced AI systems using ML, generative AI, retrieval, and agents.
• Define evaluation frameworks and continuously improve quality, reliability, and cost.
• Collaborate with Engineering to deliver scalable, production‑ready solutions.
• Contribute reusable frameworks and technical standards to accelerate AI adoption.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship on complex AI initiatives.
