Job summary

Tempo, based in San Diego, seeks a hands-on Project Engineer with 3–5 years of engineering experience to bridge front-end design and field execution, taking engineered and modular process systems from concept through construction and field startup.

The ideal candidate blends strong technical documentation capabilities (PFDs, P&IDs, and SolidWorks) with a rigorous understanding of instrumentation and project execution, including direct field commissioning and startup experience.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or closely related discipline.
• 3–5 years of post-graduate engineering experience in design, fabrication or field execution.
• Ability to work onsite in San Diego 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Detailed Design & Engineering Deliverables
• Develop and manage PFDs, mass/heat balance tables, and P&IDs
• Modify and review 3D layouts using SolidWorks
• Prepare instrument and equipment datasheets and specs
• Coordinate with vendors on quotes, bids, and calculations
• Generate Instrument lists, I/O lists, and junction box drawings
• Support control narrative development for heat offtake
• Track schedules, procurement lead times, and budget with PM
• Interface with mechanical, structural, electrical, and automation teams
• Lead FAT at vendor facilities and verify installations
• Lead onsite commissioning, startup, and handover activities
• Conduct wiring checks, loop checks, and calibration verifications
• Lead mechanical completions and punch-list closeout
• Provide engineering support during startup and performance testing
• Enforce field safety procedures
