Job summary

JR Automation, A Hitachi Group Company, is seeking an Applications Engineer II/III to translate customer requirements into automated system concepts and proposals. You will own concept development, cost estimation, and bid preparation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver competitive, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field; experience in automation or machinery is required.
• 5+ years of automation, machinery, or related technical industry experience.
• Hands-on experience in Applications Engineering, quoting, and customer interaction.
• Proficiency in CAD software: SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Visual Components.
• Strong skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; effective written and verbal communication.
• Prior JR Automation or automation-industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand customer specifications, requirements, and pain points.
• Interact with customers during the definition of machine requirements and proposals.
• Create conceptual automation solutions using CAD tools when no standard solution exists.
• Develop cost estimates, risk assessments, cycle times, and system flow diagrams to support proposals.
• Participate in internal and external quote reviews, presenting concepts, costs, risks, and timelines.
• Draft clear proposals defining scope of work, production rates, and customer requirements.
• Support Account Managers by incorporating customer needs into proposals.
• Provide cross-functional technical support during quoting and early project phases.
• Apply corporate practices, procedures, and tools consistently.
• Mentor junior engineers, co-ops, and interns.
• Travel to customer sites and company locations as needed.
