About The Role

As an application security engineer at Confluent, you will join a team of security architects and engineers responsible for defining and executing our product security strategy for both on-premises and Cloud services. You will ensure security is integrated from design and development through testing and cloud operations, collaborating with product and engineering teams to guard against threats.

This role also involves cultivating a security-aware culture across Engineering, Product, and the broader organization. You will support security automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical security knowledge and software development skills to implement robust security architectures, manage vulnerabilities, and eradicate systemic security issues at scale.

What You Will Do

• Drive and influence software security initiatives by partnering with key stakeholders
• Stay updated on emerging security vulnerabilities, perform research, and conduct triage and tabletop exercises as needed
• Perform security threat modeling and design reviews to guide secure development
• Conduct security feature reviews, penetration testing, API security testing, and code reviews to identify vulnerabilities and provide guidance
• Enhance security automation through tooling to support vulnerability management and security operations
• Design, build, and deploy security solutions, frameworks, automation, and orchestration for cloud applications
• Identify opportunities to implement additional controls for increased visibility and defense

What You Will Bring

• Strong knowledge of Web Application Security and Cloud Security fundamentals
• Experience with common software stacks and CI/CD systems
• Proficiency in coding for automation and security testing (preferably in GoLang, Python, Java)

• Leadership qualities to own outcomes and influence stakeholders
• Ability to operate independently and manage multiple initiatives
