About The Role

As an application security engineer at Confluent, you will join a team of security architects and engineers responsible for defining and executing the security strategy of our products, including on-premises and cloud services. You will embed security in every phase of product development, from design to deployment, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to guard against threats.

You will also foster a culture of security awareness across Engineering, Product, and other departments. Additionally, you will help develop software automation to support security operations. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical security knowledge and software development skills to implement robust security architectures and address systemic vulnerabilities at scale.

What You Will Do

• Partner with key stakeholders to drive and influence software security practices organization-wide.
• Stay updated on emerging security vulnerabilities, perform research, and conduct triage and tabletop exercises as needed.
• Conduct security threat modeling and design reviews to provide early guidance on secure design to engineers and product managers.
• Review security features, perform penetration testing, API security testing, and code reviews to identify vulnerabilities and guide engineers.
• Enhance security automation by building or leveraging security tooling to scale security operations and vulnerability management.
• Design and deploy security solutions, frameworks, automation, and orchestration for cloud applications.
• Identify opportunities to implement additional controls for better visibility and attack defense.

What You Will Bring

• A data-driven, decision-making mindset.
• 4+ years of relevant application security experience.
• Strong knowledge of security fundamentals, especially Web Application Security and Cloud Security primitives.
• Experience with common software stacks and CI/CD systems.
• Experience coding in GoLang, Python, Java for automation and security testing.
• Experience working with distributed teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Leadership qualities to own outcomes, influence stakeholders, and ensure product and customer safety.
• Ability to operate independently and manage multiple initiatives effectively.
