Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to support development of technical and commercial proposals for electrical power distribution solutions in the United States. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, project management, sales, and business development to deliver competitive, technically sound outcomes for customers.

Responsibilities include reviewing specs, developing scopes of work, preparing layouts and diagrams, and coordinating RFQs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review customer specs, drawings, and project requirements.
• Define and develop preliminary scopes of work for electrical power system solutions.
• Prepare conceptual layouts, single-line diagrams, and supporting engineering documentation as needed.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop customized technical solutions.
• Prepare RFQ packages for third-party equipment and coordinate with procurement to obtain supplier quotations.
• Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations regarding equipment selection and system design.
• Develop project cost estimates and pricing models utilizing internal tools and configuration software.
• Prepare customer-facing proposals and technical documentation.
• Support customer meetings, technical discussions, and proposal presentations alongside sales and business development teams.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders during contract negotiations and project award activities.
• Ensure an effective handoff from the proposal phase to project execution teams upon project award.
• Assist in continuous improvement efforts related to proposal development, engineering processes, and customer engagement strategies.

Required Qualifications

• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and power system applications.
• Working knowledge of budgeting, cost estimation, and project financial considerations.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn engineering and configuration software tools.
• Ability to travel up to 10% as business needs require.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations applicable to electrical power distribution systems (ANSI, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
• Experience with medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems, or related power infrastructure products.
• Ability to review and interpret electrical schematics, relay protection drawings, communication network diagrams, and other engineering documentation.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Visio, or similar electrical and 2D design software.
• 3-5+ years of experience within engineering consulting, EPC, manufacturing, utility, industrial, energy, or related environments.
• Advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the required experience.
• Experience supporting proposal development, estimating, applications engineering, or technical sales functions is highly preferred.
