Job summary

DuPage County’s Information Technology Department in Wheaton, IL invites applications for a Senior Application Developer role. The position focuses on designing, coding, testing, and maintaining critical applications to support county operations.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage development tasks, and ensure reliable software delivery within a public-sector environment with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology-related field is required.
  • Seven years of programming experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in a project team, support and enhance existing systems and implements new applications.
  • Collaborates with application teams, technical teams and vendors on technical solutions and alternatives to solve business needs.
  • Analyzes business environment, processes, systems, and organizational structure.
  • Receives and understands deliverables and requirements.
  • Writes required programming code necessary for new or existing systems.
  • Ensures system test and stability before delivery.
  • Documents system and operational and maintenance procedures.
  • Works with end users to gather business requirements, document and gain approval for the scope of a project, develop project plans and participate in implementation.
  • Provides input on the specifications and evaluation of new off-the-shelf applications.

Salary: $88,000.00 – $95,000.00 Annually

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology-related field
  • Seven (7) years of programming experience
Preferred Candidate
  • Microsoft Client/Server environment knowledge.
  • Knowledge of computer systems which include – Network Enabled Technology (.NET) and Microsoft suite of products including Structured Query Language (SQL) server, Visual Studio, Visual Basic/ C Sharp (VB/C#)
  • Understanding of AI concepts, familiarity with AI/ML tools in Microsoft environments, and the ability to collaborate with teams to leverage AI for innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring, to accelerate software delivery and enhance application reliability.
  • Experience with Oracle Database and PL/SQL Developer for writing and optimizing database queries and procedures.
