Job description

Description

The Senior Application Developer leads the design and delivery of complex application features and cross-system solutions in a primarily Microsoft environment. The role translates ambiguous business needs into actionable requirements and technical designs, owns work from discovery through production support, and provides technical guidance to other developers. The Senior Application Developer applies advanced judgment to AI-assisted requirements, designs, implementations, testing, and documentation and helps the team use AI safely and effectively.

Essential Job Functions
  • Lead requirements analysis, solution design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support for complex application features and cross-system solutions.
  • Facilitate discussions with product owners, business stakeholders, and engineers to clarify outcomes, assumptions, dependencies, risks, acceptance criteria, and technical constraints.
  • Design secure, scalable, maintainable solutions using .NET, C#, React, TypeScript, SQL Server, REST APIs, Azure services, and approved integration patterns.
  • Define API contracts, data models, application boundaries, implementation plans, and testing strategies for assigned solutions.
  • Establish unit, integration, API, regression, and browser-based automated testing appropriate to solution risk and complexity.
  • Review technical designs, pull requests, code changes, test coverage, and documentation and provide clear, actionable feedback.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and guide durable corrective actions.
  • Identify technical debt and recommend remediation based on risk, business value, maintainability, and delivery priorities.
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines, release practices, development standards, and operational documentation.
  • Mentor Application Developers in software design, technical problem solving, testing, documentation, and responsible AI-assisted development.
  • Contribute reusable prompts, instructions, patterns, reference examples, and quality practices to the development team.
AI-Enabled Development Expectations
  • Use AI across requirements analysis, technical design, implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and code review where approved and appropriate.
  • Convert business discussions and source materials into draft user stories, acceptance criteria, specifications, test scenarios, and implementation plans, then validate them with authorized stakeholders.
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, missing requirements, security concerns, edge cases, untested paths, and incomplete logic in AI-generated artifacts.
  • Compare AI-assisted requirements, designs, code, and tests for traceability, consistency, and coverage.
  • Determine when an AI-assisted assignment is too broad for practical human review and decompose it into smaller increments.
  • Coach developers on prompt quality, context management, secure data handling, validation, limitations, and escalation.
  • Recommend team-level AI workflow improvements without bypassing required design, security, testing, review, or release controls.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced professional experience developing full-stack applications with Microsoft .NET, C#, SQL Server, web technologies, APIs, automated testing, and source-control practices.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex features or cross-system solutions and supporting production applications.
  • Strong knowledge of application architecture, data modeling, integration patterns, security, performance, maintainability, CI/CD, and release practices.
  • Experience leading technical design, code review, root-cause analysis, and technical problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor developers and influence engineering quality without direct supervisory authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to validate and improve AI-generated requirements, technical designs, code, tests, and documentation.
  • Degree, relevant technical certification, or equivalent directly related experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, ASP.NET Web API, Azure services, microservices, Playwright, Python, and modern quality-engineering practices.
  • Experience with healthcare billing, X12.837, regulated data, security-sensitive systems, or healthcare technology integrations.
  • Experience establishing reusable development patterns, prompts, instructions, or engineering standards.
Core Competencies
  • Systems thinking and ability to communicate technical tradeoffs.
  • Technical leadership through influence, mentoring, and constructive review.
  • Strong stakeholder communication and ability to clarify ambiguity.
  • Disciplined experimentation, quality measurement, and continuous improvement.
  • Judgment to accept, revise, or reject AI-assisted output and explain the decision.
Scope and Decision Authority
  • Owns complex features and solutions spanning multiple application components or services.
  • Works with broad autonomy within established architecture and governance.
  • Makes significant design and implementation decisions and coordinates work across developers or application areas.
  • Serves as an escalation point for complex design, implementation, testing, and production issues.
  • Escalates enterprise architecture, material security, compliance, vendor, and cross-portfolio decisions.
Responsible AI and Human Accountability

This position may use only organization-approved AI tools, data connections, and development practices. The employee must review, test, document, and validate AI-assisted work before use or release and remains accountable for correctness, security, privacy, maintainability, intellectual-property considerations, business alignment, and final decisions. Sensitive or regulated information may be used only within systems approved for that information. Material uncertainty, unexpected behavior, security concerns, or policy conflicts must be escalated through approved channels.
