Senior App Software Engineer: Mission-Critical Systems

Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Application Software Engineer to own and develop mission critical software used across SpaceX programs, including Starship manufacturing and Starlink platforms. You will design, implement, and maintain software with end-to-end ownership and collaborate across teams to move fast.

You will work on systems enabling rapid build, data processing, and production readiness, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance in a highly dynamic launch environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline and 5+ years of professional experience in software development.
• 3+ years of professional experience in full stack development.
• Experience with Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, or Java.
• 1+ years of rigorous experience building single page web applications.
• Experience with version control, CI/CD, and deployment concepts.
• Expertise in designing software systems.
• Deep understanding of testing, CI, build, deployment & monitoring.
• Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel/Pants/Buck, Gradle) and package management tools (pip, npm).
• Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
• Experience with in-stream data processing using Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar framework.
• Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar databases.

Responsibilities

• Develop highly reliable software solutions used across SpaceX.
• Create new applications that improve SpaceX operations.
• Build prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify constraints.
• Own all aspects of software engineering and product development.
• Deep dive into users’ problems to find and create efficient solutions.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews with the team.
