Job summary

System One, Inc. is seeking a Senior API Platform Software Engineer to join an API Ecosystem team delivering backend services, APIs, and platform capabilities in a distributed AWS-based environment.

You will build and enhance API infrastructure and governance for enterprise-scale financial services applications. The role requires strong Java/Python development, API design experience, and extensive AWS/Kubernetes tooling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on software development in Java and/or Python.
• Experience building RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices at scale.
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, Route 53, CloudWatch).
• Experience with API management: Apigee OPDK, Apigee X, or Apigee Hybrid.
• Understanding API lifecycle: versioning, security, throttling, analytics.
• API security knowledge: OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, API keys.
• OpenAPI/Swagger; GraphQL a plus.
• CI/CD and DevOps: GitHub/GitLab, Terraform.
• JavaScript/TypeScript for supporting full stack/platform development.
• Containers/Kubernetes in AWS (ECS/EKS).
• Observability: OpenTelemetry, Splunk, CloudWatch.
• Load balancing, caching, high availability, resiliency, disaster recovery.
• Relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong troubleshooting and quick learning in Agile/Scrum with cross-functional teams.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior API Platform Software Engineer to join an API Ecosystem team supporting enterprise scale financial services applications. This role is focused on building and enhancing backend services, APIs, and API platform capabilities within a highly distributed, AWS based environment.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

• . 5+ years of hands on software development experience using Java (8-21) and/or Python.
• . Experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices in distributed environments.
• . Hands on experience with AWS, particularly services such as EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, Route 53, and CloudWatch.
• . Experience with API management and API gateway technologies, including Apigee OPDK, Apigee X, or Apigee Hybrid.
• . Strong understanding of the API lifecycle, including versioning, security, throttling, traffic management, and analytics.
• . Experience implementing API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, and API key management.
• . Working knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger; GraphQL experience is a plus.
• . Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tooling, including GitHub or GitLab and Terraform.
• . Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript for supporting full stack or platform development needs.
• . Experience with containers and Kubernetes, particularly ECS and EKS in AWS environments.
• . Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry (OTEL), Splunk, and AWS CloudWatch.
• . Understanding of load balancing, caching, high availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery concepts.
• . Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• . Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
• . Experience collaborating with Product, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Desired Skillset

• . CloudFormation experience is beneficial.
