Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a Senior Operations Engineer - API to lead commissioning, qualification, start-up, and readiness for a new Small Molecule facility in Elkton, VA.

You will work with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Technical Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure safe, compliant start-up and ongoing manufacturing excellence. The role emphasizes coordinating improvement activities, leveraging Lean principles, and embedding best practices across shifts and teams.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical engineering, pharmaceutical engineering, biochemical engineering, chemistry or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of API small molecule manufacturing experience including operations or technical operations.
• Cross-functional manufacturing/technical/operational experience in GMP environments.

Aufgaben

• Support commissioning, qualification, start-up, and operational readiness for the new API Small Molecule facility in Elkton, VA.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Technical Operations, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant start-up.
• Provide technical/operational support during equipment/process start-up, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Support technology transfer and implementation of commercial manufacturing processes.
• Define and improve operating practices, standard work, procedures, and routines for reliable operations.
• Coordinate and prioritize improvement activities within the IPT to align with business goals.
• Apply Lean tools (Kaizen, 5S, visual management, Standard Work) to identify improvement opportunities.
• Embed best practices across shifts and functions to promote consistency and efficiency.
• Support a culture of safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Act as delegate for the Production Lead when needed and assist leadership continuity.
• Contribute to an inclusive, performance-driven work environment.
