Job summary

Scripps Research Translational Institute is seeking a mid-senior level Animal Care position to oversee daily care of laboratory animals, monitor health, and maintain accurate records. Responsibilities include health observations, treatments under veterinary guidance, and proper cage sanitation.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least five years in animal care; a life science degree or AALAS certification may substitute for experience. Weekend rotations may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum five years of animal care experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree in life science, AALAS certification, or related substitute experience may apply.
• Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work weekend/holiday rotations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Daily care of research animals and maintaining a clean environment.
• Observe animal health and complete health reports.
• Perform health treatments under veterinary direction.
• Manage animal transfer, feeding, watering, and bedding.
• Clean, sanitize, and autoclave cages and equipment.
• Record-keeping of breeder cards, production logs, and inventories.
• Identify animals and maintain proper tagging and classification.
• Euthanize animals per procedures when required.
• Receive, ship, and report discrepancies in animals.
