Job summary

Platte Center West, LLC in Albion, NE seeks a Senior Animal Scientist to lead improvements in feeding, housing, sanitation, and disease control for swine operations. You will independently oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems and provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership.

You will assess animal health, participate in vaccination and treatment administration, and help coordinate breeding and movement of sows and gilts while documenting activities with a PDA or computer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, biology, engineering, or an animal-based agriculture-related field.
• At least 1 year of experience as an animal scientist, farmworker, or related position including 1 year experience working with commercial swine or cattle operations.

Job description

Platte Center West, LLC is seeking a Senior Animal Scientist in Albion, NE. Actively work with senior leadership to develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of pigs, sows, or gilts. Independently oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems and provide detailed recommendations to senior leadership about improved products and techniques that could enhance swine health quality and production. Work with senior leadership and team to implement any such improvements. Actively engage in assessment of animal health conditions, participate in administration of treatment and vaccines, oversee selection and movement of all animals marked or moved, and enter data regarding such assessments using a PDA or computer. May engage in and/or direct other team members in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and handfeeding, documentation of all sow and gilt activity on each sow card, and/or participation in estrus detection of sows and gilts and insemination of sows and gilts. Assess animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality. Provide detailed recommendations to senior leadership regarding the same.

Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, biology, engineering, or an animal-based agriculture-related field (foreign equivalent accepted) and 1 year experience as an animal scientist, farmworker, or related position including 1 year experience working with commercial swine or cattle operations.
