Job summary

WPI's Research Department is seeking a Senior Animal Care Technician to provide animal care and husbandry to a variety of small laboratory animals across multiple WPI facilities. This is a temporary 10 hours per week position for 12 months.

Responsibilities include supervising Animal Care Attendants, ensuring compliance with IACUC, OLAW, AAALAC, EHS, and USDA regulations, and handling equipment such as cage washers and anesthesia machines. ALAT certification must be pursued within two years.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree required with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with 2+ years experience as Animal Care Attendant in a vivarium.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within two years of starting in Senior Animal Care Technician role.
  • Must be available for early morning delivery and intake of animals (USDA species).
  • Must work a flexible schedule including weekends and holiday rotations.

  • Assist with the conduct of large animal studies under USDA regulations.
  • Perform and assist with administrative tasks, paying close attention to detail and ensuring compliance with regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Process animal cages safely and efficiently, in accordance with established policies, guidelines, procedures, and regulations.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate: $26 per hour depending on experience.
