Job summary

Speechify, a fully distributed tech company, seeks a Tech Lead for the Android Core Product in Indianapolis to lead the Android app roadmap and deliver high‑quality user experiences.

You will own major features, mentor teammates, and collaborate with design, product, and backend teams. Strong Kotlin, MVVM, Jetpack Compose, and testing discipline are required to push the app forward in a competitive market.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Familiarity with Android components and app development.
• Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
• Product design intuition and user empathy.
• Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
• Understanding of tests and how to write them.
• Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec.
• Rock-solid experience with Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit.

Responsibilities

• Owning major features and work with design to deliver high quality features.
• Shape the future of our Android team.
• Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Participate in discussions across Product, Design, Engineering.
• Review pull requests and support teammates.
• Handle critical issues or unexpected challenges.
• Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA.
