Job summary

Google's App Surfaces team seeks a software engineer to accelerate development for the Google Home ecosystem. You will contribute to Core Mobile, Smart Displays, and Cross-Surfaces, driving reliability and scale across platforms.

The role emphasizes architecture, cross-functional collaboration, and a strong background in Android-focused and full-stack engineering, with opportunities to mentor and lead initiatives. In-person interviews may be part of the process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years testing and launching software with a focus on android systems or android architecture.
• 5 years full stack development across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ and front-end such as JavaScript/TypeScript/HTML/CSS.
• 3 years experience with software design and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Drive the pivot towards treating application, mobile as infrastructure and quality as a platform to ensure consistency, scalability and developer velocity.
• Lead dedicated engineering swarms to eliminate crashers, improve state-sync latency, and resolve functional detractors.
• Own system health by monitoring and improving metrics like latency, memory footprint, and crash rates toward a crash-free user rate.
• Guide architectural migration to the Google Home Platform and deprecate legacy systems to enable faster feature delivery.
• Oversee the deployment pipeline, build/release flags, and on-call operations with automated, self-serve infrastructure delivery.
