Job summary

Waymo is building the in-car experience by crafting reliable Android components and flows using Jetpack Compose. You will collaborate with UX/UI designers, Product Managers, and Vehicle Software Engineers to launch innovative in-car experiences that convey the vehicle's actions clearly.

We seek a BS in CS with 5+ years of software development, 3+ years in Android, and strong Kotlin/Java skills, plus leadership and mentoring experience. Hybrid role reporting to an Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of Android application development, including testing and launching features.
• Proven ability to design and implement significant features or components independently.
• Proficiency in Kotlin or Java, with strong understanding of Android internals.
• Experience leading technical designs and mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Create reliable Android components and flows using Jetpack Compose.
• Build features within the in-car interface that inspire trust and clearly communicate the vehicle's intentions.
• Work closely with UX/UI designers, Product Managers, and Vehicle Software Engineers to launch in-car experiences.
• Design and maintain software controlling in-car systems such as displays, audio, and climate controls.
• Manage the full software development lifecycle with emphasis on quality and safety-sensitive systems.
